Ben Tinker's epic monthly music series
Not to be missed! Always interesting!
Join us for Adobe's monthly music series!
This month we have some of the Bay Area's, nay, the world's best improvisors, experimental acoustic, amplified, electronic composer/performers ("..how dare he!") in the intimate setting you've come to know and love at Adobe Books on a early Fridayeve (note, 7:30pm, perfect for after work!) make these dark days a bit brighter in cosy company at Adobe Book!
Topping the evening off with resident beardo Eric Glick Rieman! Witness him coaxing thee keys of his unique prepared/extended Rhodes electric piano, you know, this is the guy who has recorded with Fred Frith, Lesli Dalaba, Carla Kihlstedt, Stuart Dempster, Zoe Keating, and Tom Heasley. This guy has performed with Ikue Mori, Fred Anderson, Daniel Godston, David Boykin, Marcos Fernandes, Amy Denio, David Slusser, Kristin Miltner, and John Ingle, and he has performed the work of Roscoe Mitchell, Eliane Radigue, Meredith Monk, Fred Frith, Cecil Taylor, Alvin Curran, Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, James Tenney, George Lewis, and Alvin Lucier under the composers' supervision. Come see hear what all the fuss is all about!
A one off duo of visiting flautist Jane Rigler and community clarinetist Matt Ingalls, both known, hailed and respected for their innovations in new performance, techniques and unique musical vocabulary to their respective instruments! Don't miss this!
Nurse Betty is a noise experiment by Dianne Lynn of Homoglochini, Weird Ear Records, and LCM. Duel sided pulsing fritzed out synths, and hapenstance zounds, perhaps inspired by theories and methods such as flow, osmosis, stress, and relief. This will NOT be Nurse Betty's premier! But that's no reason NOT to go! Yo!
Starting off with John McCowen an Oakland-based composer/clarinetist/improviser who is moving out of the Bay Area soon! So get over here! He specialises in post-electronic acoustic music. His solo work is focused on the extended possibilities of the clarinet/contrabass clarinet. He embraces long-form drones as a means to extrude the structure within - treating the clarinet as an acoustic synthesizer. So time to zone out! He too has worked with Roscoe Mitchell & Fred Frith, and also Sult & Tool! (Sult & Tool!)
