Paseo Artistico Art Walk on 24th Street!

Acción Latina Presents: PASEO ARTISTICO: CELELBRACÍON AFRO-LATINX

Various venues on 24th Street/Calle 24 Latino Cultural District.

This February 8th Paseo Artistico honors Latinx of African Descent through art, performances, workshops, classes and historical archives in El Tecolote. Paseo Artistico, the Mission District’s bimonthly Community Art Stroll celebrates Black Latinx heritage and all movements for racial justice both locally and throughout the Americas. Featured activities include Afro-Mexicano son jarocho performance, spoken word, Afro-Cuban music, dance, Afro-Latinx textiles, headwraps and crafts, Puerto Rican Bilingual hip-hop, live music and more.  

Invited artists include RubiOseguera and her Son Jarocho group performing the Afro-Veracruzano Music of Mexico, spoken word with Afro-Mexican poet Jeremy Vaszquez, and Afro-Salvadoran writer Olivia Peña, as well as presentation on Afro-Mexican textiles, headwraps and crafts with artist Azteca Negra and DJ Leydis. Afro-Cuban timba perfromance and dance class with Yismari Ramos and Denmis Bain Savigne, as well as Puerto Rican hip-hop artist Rico Pabon, musician Manolo Davila, Cio Castaneda and more. 

Paseo Artistico is a multimedia chronological stroll down 24th Street. Beginning with a Son Jarocho music performance and collaborative fandango jam session at 12noon at BRAVA Theater/Cabaret. The stroll moves up 24th Street toward Mission Street venues, culminating in a headliner performance at Mission Cultural Center by Puerto Rican MC/Poet Rico Pabon and musician-singer-songwriter Manolo Davila.

Schedule Feb 8:

 12PM- BRAVA Theater- Opening performance by Rubi Oseguera Son Jarocho music and fandango. Afro-Mexican music of Veracruz.

 1PM – PRECITA EYES (outdoor performance) “La Rumba No Para” Mission District Young Musicians feat. Miguel Govea and Community Music Center Student musicians on 24th Street and South Van Ness. Cookie Gonzales performs AfroCuban music and also discusses his mural for DJ Chata Gutierrez “La Rumba No Para”

 2PM- ADOBE BOOKS: Spoken Poetry with Afro-Mexican poet Jeremy Vasquez & Afro-Salvadoreña writer Olivia Peña 

 3PM - ACCION LATINA: Azteca Negra and DJ Leydis present Afro-Mexican headwraps, textiles and crafts with Afro-Cuban beats. Discussion on Afro-Latinx ancestral identity, headwraps and hair. 

 4PM - DANCE MISSION THEATER: Yismari Ramos and Denmis Bain Afro-Cuban Dance performance and Cuban Timba salsa dance class 

5:30PM - MISSION CULTURAL CENTER THEATER: Afro-Boricua rap and live music concert with rapper Rico Pabon and singer songwriter Manolo Davila, with special guest rapper Cio Castaneda.

Come celebrate and bring awareness to Latinos of African Descent through art, performances, workshops, classes and historical archives in El Tecolote. Paseo Artistico honors The Mission District’s Ancestors of African Descent and the movements for racial justice both locally and throughout the Americas.
