LITERARY: My Vietnam, Your Vietnam BOOK RELEASE!

  • Adobe Books & Arts Co-op 3130 24th Street San Francisco, CA, 94110 United States (map)

Experience a compelling convergence of literature and music as we celebrate the release of Christina Vo’s dual memoir, My Vietnam, Your Vietnam (co-authored by her father, Nghia M. Vo) in the company of indie-rock artist see night (Linda Sao). This unique event combines a book talk with an intimate musical performance, bridging the gap between two distinct art forms while honoring shared Vietnamese heritage.

Together, Christina Vo and see night will transport you to a world where the past meets the present, where personal narratives intertwine with the broader historical context, and where the healing power of art transcends the wounds of war. Join us for this unforgettable evening of storytelling, music, and shared human connection.

Christina Vo is an author based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she writes to explore the interplay of culture, identity, and personal history. Her second book, My Vietnam, Your Vietnam, is an intergenerational memoir co-written with her father, which was nominated by Ms. Magazine as one of the most anticipated feminist books of 2024. She is also the author of the The Veil Between Two Worlds: A Memoir of Silence, Loss, and Finding Home. She has worked internationally for UNICEF in Vietnam, the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, as well served as a consultant for nonprofits. Christina holds an MSc in social and public communication from the London School of Economics.

see night is the indie-rock project of Vietnamese-American singer-songwriter Linda Sao with a vinyl record released by Bob Nastanovich (Pavement, Silver Jews) on his Brokers Tip Records. As a 4-piece or solo, sn has opened for Bonnie Prince Billy, Widowspeak, David Dondero, Rogue Wave, Lady Lamb, John Vanderslice, The Pack A.D., Sunwatchers, and more. When touring as see night (solo), Sao—an official Anderson Guitarworks artist—distills the see night songs into raw and intimate form with a simple setup of just an electric guitar and haunting vocals. Sao's parents met in Saigon during the Vietnam War: her mother would become a boat refugee who then reunited with Sao's American Navy pilot father after fleeing to the States in April of 1975. The "see night" moniker pays homage to the Sea Knight helicopter her father piloted in Vietnam, while the name "Sao" pays homage to her Vietnamese grandmother. Sao is based in California and has toured the EU/UK solo 4 times.
