Gwen Amber Rose Araujo is a tribute to the late LGBTQ Gwen Araujo (1985-2002), a transgender teenager who was murdered in California on October 24, 2002. This work is dedicated to Gwen’s mother Sylvia Guerrero, as well as all the trans and gender non-conforming people that were inspired to launch the Trans March in San Francisco in 2004.

Kirk Maxsom’s Gwen Amber Rose Araujo was featured earlier this year in the group exhibition ‘In the Garden’ at the Shelburne Museum of Art in Vermont.
